Students in Wellington managed to get back into sport after the recent lockdown, finishing the winter season in style. The Ross twins from Onslow College got to get back out on the football field and win the Premier Girls Football final beating Wellington Girls on penalties. We asked them a few questions about lockdown and what it meant to get back on the pitch.
We both tried to stay as fit as we could during lockdown as we wanted to stay prepared for when the season was able to restart. It was hard trying to find a routine to stick to but we regularly tried to go out for runs in our neighbourhood and use our spin bike and home gym equipment. As well as this we would go to our local park and practice football with each other and our younger sister who also plays in the team with us.
It felt really good to get back to playing again as we were able to see and play with our teammates with who we get along really well. It would have been devastating for all of us if we're not able to finish the season as we put a lot of effort in at the beginning of the season to get to the position we were at. Getting back to playing was also really refreshing as we had been away from properly playing for so long and it was good to know that all the hard work, we put in over lockdown wasn’t for nothing. Lastly, it was very rewarding to be able to end the season on a high note, winning the Wellington Premier 1 Girls Football competition and that really meant a lot to us and our team.
